A 23-year-old Burundian national has died after being involved in a road accident at Mbalame Primary School in Dowa district.

Dowa Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Alice Sitima said the deceased is identified as Kawawazi Shema who was based at Dzaleka refugee camp.

The accident occurred on Sunday October 08 2023, at Mbalame Primary School in the district.

The vehicle, Toyota Probox registration number MN 3110, was being driven by Bonenjani Njolomole from the direction of Dzaleka heading towards Dowa turnoff, with ten passengers on board.

Upon arrival at Mbalame Primary School, as he was descending the escarpments, the rear offside tyre got burst.

As a result, the driver lost control of the motor vehicle and it swerved to the offside dirty verge, where it overturned and rested into the drainage.

Following the impact, Shema sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Dowa district hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The motor vehicle was extensively damaged.
