Education authorities in Nsanje district have faced delays in recruiting teachers for the Initial Primary Teacher Education (IPTE) 13 and 14 cohorts due to the absence of PT4 (Grade L) teaching positions.

A junior staff member at the Chief Education, Youths, and Sports Officer’s office in Nsanje revealed that interviews for Grades K, I, J, and H are planned to create openings for PT4 (Grade L) teachers. The outcomes of the Grade K interviews, in particular, will determine the allocation of Grade L teaching positions.

The junior staff member stated, “More than 1,400 teachers have remained at Grade L without being promoted to Grade K.”

Furthermore, it was noted that the recruitment of Auxiliary Teachers in the district will depend on the promotion of PT3 (Grade K) teachers.

MacShadis Dakamau, Chief Education, Youths, and Sports Officer for Nsanje, confirmed the situation and announced that interviews are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday next week. On October 9, 2023, Grades J, I, and H will undergo interviews, while October 10, 2023, is reserved for Grade K interviews.

The Auxiliary Teachers in Nsanje have recently signed new ten-month contracts, which will expire in July 2024.
