Lilongwe Police Station has recovered motorcycle parts and car accessories, worth over K7.3 million, that include 9 motorcycle engines, 400 pieces of plugs, kit pistons, and car batteries, among others, all brand new, stolen at Zofa Company’s warehouse.

Police have also arrested four suspects including a security guard on Friday, October 6, 2023.

The suspects have been identified as Madison Sambantani, 37, Zatcha James, 32, Madalitso Isaac, 22, (security guard) and Kondwani Duli, 22.

On the said date at around 12 midnight, the Station’s vehicle patrol team whilst doing routine duties, became suspicious after bumping into a Nissan pickup registration number BM 7452 that was packed by the roadside along the Lilongwe-Mchinji Road.

While the team was still grilling the suspects for being found at that place during such an odd hour without a convincing reason, one of suspects’ telephone rang.

Suspiciously, they were reluctant to answer the phone call in the presence of the police officers.

This is when the law enforcers intercepted the call and quickly, the person at the other end of the call went straight into conveying the message telling them to rush to the warehouse to collect the items.

Police immediately detained the suspects and took them to the said warehouse for a follow-up. Upon reaching the place, it is when the law enforcers found a pile of the said accessories packed outside the warehouse, waiting to be collected by the suspects.

Police then seized the items, arrested the culprits, and impounded the vehicle which also belongs to one of the arrested suspects, Zatcha James.

However, one security guard managed to sneak away from the scene, he is still at large.

The incident is the second within this year for Lilongwe Police Station to recover such valuable items, stolen at the same warehouse and in a similar fashion.

The suspects will soon be taken to court.
