Former President Peter Mutharika, who is also the leader of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP),  has reaffirmed his bid for the Malawi leadership in 2025.

He made this declaration during a speech at the Mulakho wa Alhomwe, annual cultural festival in Mulanje, hosted at Chonde, the Mulakho wa Alhomwe headquarters.

Mutharika criticized the government for allegedly imposing economic sanctions on the Southern region by relocating key institutions to Lilongwe.

He promised to reverse these decisions if he regains power.
