The Principal Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has sentenced a police officer identified as Temwa Tembo 30, to one year imprisonment for assaulting a young boy aged between 11 to 14 years at Lumbadzi.

It is reported that in September 2023, the accused got drunk and assaulted the boy for no apparent reason.

And appearing in court, Tembo pleaded guilty to two counts of common assault and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

Delivering his ruling, Principal Resident Magistrate Rodrick Michongwe said he has given the accused such a punishment for others to learn.

Meanwhile, National Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya said this means that Tembo has also lost his job in the Malawi Police Service.
