The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has issued a 7-day ultimatum to President Lazarus Chakwera, demanding the removal of Homeland Security Minister Ken Zikhale Ng’oma due to perceived failure in managing the country’s security situation.

In a statement, CDEDI’s executive director, Sylvester Namiwa, urged the president to address the nation on the security issues, as the minister’s attempts and government spokesperson Moses Kumkuyu’s statements have not instilled hope.

Namiwa stressed the importance of the president’s voice in addressing recent suspected murder cases, stating that Malawians expect him to show solidarity and leadership.

Responding, the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) spokesperson, Robert Kalindiza, noted that while they have not received an official letter from CDEDI, the president will exercise his powers independently in deciding whether to retain or dismiss the minister, emphasizing that such decisions are not influenced by external organizations.
