The government has announced that Monday, October 16, 2023, is a public holiday to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture, has confirmed that the holiday is on Monday since this year’s designated 15 October falls on Sunday.

According to a press statement signed by secretary for the Ministry of Local Government,

James Chiusiwa.

 

“In accordance with the Public Holidays Act Chapter 18:05. The 16th October,2023, will in all respects, be a public holiday as if it were a day specified in the schedule and 15th October this year will cease to be a public holiday”, reads part of the press statement.

Mother’s Day in Malawi is celebrated every year on October 15. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating motherhood. Interestingly, Mother’s Day in Malawi is observed on the same day as the United Nations’ International Day of Rural Women.
