At least eight people have returned home lifeless after Mother’s day celebration due to two different road accidents happened in Nkhata Bay and Salima District.
Six Mothers loss their live during the Mother’s Day trip their vehicle plunged into Kapeska River around Chintheche in Nkhata Bay.
Spokesperson for Nkhata-Bay police Kondwani James has said that the people were in a minibus going from Nkhata Bay to Dwangwa in Nkhotakota.
The driver of the minibus failed to negotiate a bend at Kapeska River and the vehicle fell into the river.
James said Police rushed to the scene and found some of the women stuck inside the vehicle.
In-Charge for Chintheche Rural Hospital, Greyson Kumwenda, told the local media that they received bodies of five women and a man.
People who sustained injuries in the accident were also taken to the same health facility.
On the other hand, Tree people have died while eleven others are receiving treatment after they were involved in an accident on Monday at Nika village in Salima district.
Police have identified the three as Esther Joni aged 13, Jamila Kolobe aged 23 and Chinaza Okwo aged 3.
According to Salima Police Publicist Sub-inspector Rabecca Ndiwate, the people were travelling in a Toyota Quantum registration number CP 1071.
The driver lost control and the vehicle swerved to the extreme right where the vehicle hit a pedestrian and overturned. Ndiwate says the impact of the accident led to the death of two passengers in the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the injured passengers have been taken to Salima District Hospital.
