Police in Rumphi have arrested a Rumphi Hospital attendant, Nancy Mbale, for being found with assorted drugs without a license at the hospital’s main entrance barely two days after the hospital’s pharmacy was razed down by fire.

Rumphi Police Public Relations Officer Noel Kamchenga says the guards at the facility discovered the drugs after searching her bag, as she tried to leave the facility’s premises.

“The guards called the police after discovering the drugs in her bag after a search. She is currently in our custody awaiting court appearance. She will likely be charged with being found in possession of drugs without a license,” explained Kamchenga.

Rumphi District Hospital’s pharmacy was on Saturday razed down by fire which destroyed some essential drugs at the facility.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established and the police have since instituted investigations to identify the cause.

Some of the drugs the police found her with include diazepam, benzathene penicillin, benzyl penicillin, LA, paracetamol and ethambutol.
