Malawi Defence Force (MDF) through the Attorney General Thabo Chaka Nyirenda has failed to appear in court in case where State Vice-President Saulos Chilima is being accused of demanding and receiving unspecified amount of money from businessperson Zunneth Sattar.

Justice Redson Kapindu who is presiding over the case asked the MDF to appear before the court to explain why they cannot release some documents to form part of disclosures.

Kapindu asked for the presence of MDF after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) submitted in court that the MDF was not forthcoming to share some documents which the defense are demanding.

The Judge set today as the day to resume hearing of the case but the case failed due to the absence of Chakaka Nyirenda.

In an interview after the session which took place in chamber, defense lawyer Khumbo Soko said the Attorney General asked for an adjournment as he is currently attending to other matters.

The court is therefore expected to schedule another day for the hearing.
