Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Councillor for Blantyre City Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has questioned recent threats by the law enforcers on the murder Coca-cola Beverages employee Allan Witika.

On Friday last week, the law enforcers arrested Lester Maganga, a personal assistant to Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu.

Following the arrest many people especially social media users came up with different theories to link Kunkuyu into the matter but the law enforcers quashed the claims.

The law enforcers went further by arresting three people for spreading false rumours.

Reacting to the development Chimbanga blasted the law enforcers for being more concerns with people spreading rumours than the murder case itself.

Chimbanga wrote;

The death of Mr Allan Witika has been an ongoing investigation, however, recent developments have led to a warning by the police regarding the damaging of the reputation of innocent people. In an audio recording that has surfaced, a female police detective by the name of Susan is mentioned. Her alleged involvement in the case and subsequent reporting to politicians have raised concerns and questions among the public.

While the police have always urged the public to come forward with any credible leads, their warning regarding the potential damage to innocent people’s reputation has raised eyebrows. It is important for the police to investigate any allegations that have been made before making any threats to the public. If the allegations against Detective Susan are true, then her phone records should be investigated, and a statement should be issued regarding her involvement in the case.

The arrest that was made shortly before the audio surfaced also raises questions about the content of the recording. What if the person mentioned in the audio was not a cabinet minister or member of the MCP? It is important for the police to follow up on the lead provided in the audio to ensure that justice is served in the case.

The police have always urged the public to cooperate with their investigations, but the recent warning appears to be contradictory. The public could be discouraged from coming forward with vital information regarding the case if they fear that they may be wrongly accused of wrongdoing. This could severely hamper the progress of the investigation.

It is essential for the police to investigate the alleged involvement of Detective Susan in the case and to provide the public with an explanation for her reporting to politicians. The police have a responsibility to be transparent and accountable in their investigations and to provide the public with regular updates on the progress made in the case.

In conclusion, the police’s warning about the potential damage to innocent people’s reputation in the case of Mr Allan Witika’s death is concerning. It is important for the police to investigate any allegations made before making any threats to the public. The alleged involvement of Detective Susan and her reporting to politicians raise questions that need to be answered. The police have a responsibility to be transparent and accountable in their investigations and to provide the public with regular updates on the progress made in the case.
