President Dr Lazarus Chakwera said Malawi has the potential of becoming a self-reliant country through innovations in sectors like agriculture.
Chakwera made the remarks on Thursday at Chadza Primary School Ground in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Chadza during a developmental rally he addressed after presiding over the 7th congregation graduation ceremony at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), Bunda campus.
The Malawi leader said Malawi’s development lean on agriculture and Malawians should make good use of the Affordable Inputs Programme in order to produce more crops both for consumption and export.
“Let us work hard this year in our fields, as the fertilizer for Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP) will be distributed on time to the beneficiaries.
“The achievement of food security from household level, is one of this government’s priorities. For Malawi to be self-reliant we need to cast away the dependency syndrome but rather we should work hard in our farms,” said Chakwera.
During the rally, several people from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) were announced to have pulled out from the party and joined MCP.
