Approximately 38 female students from Nsalu Secondary School, residing in a private hostel, have been admitted to Kabudula Community Hospital due to suspected food poisoning.

Dr. Mackson Zephaniah, the hospital’s director, confirmed that the students are under observation and are receiving necessary medical attention.

The illness is believed to have resulted from the students’ consumption of Nsima with Chinese cabbage in the evening and rice porridge in the morning.

Symptoms displayed by the affected students include abdominal pains, vomiting, diarrhea, and some reported headaches.

Despite concerns, a cholera test conducted at the hospital yielded negative results.

An investigation into the hygiene conditions at the hostel and the potential cause of the food poisoning is underway, initiated by the hospital’s Assistant Environmental Health Officer, Wilson Mandala.
