Police in Chikwawa are keeping in custody a 40 year old man, Boston Navaya, a teacher at Chilumba Primary School in Ngabu, for defining a 14 year old standard 6 girl.
Chikwawa Police Station Deputy Public Relations Officer Constable Chancy Mfune, says on 27th June 2023, the victim and her friend went to a netball competition to represent their school and were escorted by their teacher who is the suspect on his Motorcycle.
After the netball match, the suspect cheated the girls that his Motorcycle had developed a problem and he could not manage to carry them both.
She added that the suspect asked his friend who also had a motorcycle to carry the victim’s friend, whilst he carried the victim and on their way home ,the suspect diverted to a certain rest house where he defiled the girl.
“The matter was reported to Ngabu Police by the mother of the victim. The suspect was arrested on 30 October, 2023 after being on the run for three months”, she added.
The suspect will soon appear in court to answer the charges of having sexual intercourse with a minor contrary to section 138 sub section (1) of the penal code.
Boston Navaya hails from Sigaleti village, Traditional Authority Ngabu in the District.
