Zomba Senior Resident Magistrate court has convicted and sentenced a 22-year-old man to 10 years in prison for defiling a minor.
Deputy Public Relations Officer for Zomba Police Aaron Chilala has identified the convict as Andrea Nazombe who hails from Mtiya village, Traditional Authority Mlumbe in Zomba district
According to Chilala the convict was accused of having sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old girl with whom he was in a love affair.
The incident occurred on October 16, 2023, when Nazombe invited the girl to his house for a sleepover.
The victim’s mother couldn’t locate her, but she received a tip that her daughter was involved with Nazombe. Upon questioning, the girl admitted to staying at Nazombe’s house.
Her mother reported the matter to the police, leading to Nazombe’s arrest. A medical report confirmed the sexual assault.
Nazombe pleaded guilty and asked for leniency due to family obligations, but the court sentenced him to 10 years in prison with hard labor, in agreement with the prosecutor’s request.
