Agriculture authorities at Rumphi district council have expressed satisfaction with the positive impact of the Enhanced climate smart public works program on agricultural productivity at Mphompha area under Traditional Authority Mwankhunikira in the district.
Agricultural extension development Officer for Mphompha EPA Giborn Mwalwimba says through the program, farmers are implementing various activities aiming at improving agricultural harvests.
He says currently farmers are making contour ridges, ridge re-alignment, plant trees and vetiver grass which controls water runoff and soil fertility resulting to bumper yield.
One of the farmers in the area Chapola Betera Mkandawire hailed the program saying on the same piece of land he used to grow crops and was not able to harvest enough food this year he has yielded double.
Enhanced climate smart public works program is a component under the Social Support for Resilient Livelihoods Project.
