The Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola Banda, says Malawi will promote the export of ‘Cannabis’ in order for the country to get the foreign currency it needs.
The minister said this on Monday 12 November 2023, when addressing the press in Lilongwe on measures that the government has taken following the 44% devaluation of Kwacha.
Banda said the government wants to find cannabis markets in foreign countries
“Malawi will try to sell cannabis to other countries, we are discussing with other countries who want our cannabis so that we can find foreign currency that we need now as a country,” said Banda.
Some of the policies announced by Finance Minister: the 184,920 Malawians affected by Cyclone Freddy will receive K50,000 per month for three months and 105,000 urban households will receive K150,000.
The minister also announced that the government, through the police, will deal with anyone who illegally sells foreign currency(the black market).
