Parliament has rejected request by the leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa to bring a motion in the Chamber, summoning President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to answer questions from the lawmakers.

Nakhumwa wanted to move the motion on the matter this morning but the government rejected it through voting.

A total of 55 lawmakers voted in support of the motion and 64 MPs mainly from the government side voted against the request while 76 were absent.

Nankhumwa wanted Chakwera to appear before parliament to answer questions on challenges affecting Malawians as a result of the devaluation of the kwacha.

He has since said he will bring back the motion during the afternoon session.
