As the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is about to release the results of by election which was held in Dedza central yesterday, Jacob Kaumphawi, an independent candidate has asked the electoral body to not release the results.
In his letter MEC Kaumphawi said that Willard Gwengwe continued to influence people after the campaign period was closed.
“Willard Gwengwe on 15 November 2023, was inviting people to vote for him even though the time to do campaign was over,” said Kaumphawi.
He added that Gwengwe was also found near the polling station, which is against the law of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
Unofficial results from the polling center shows that Gengwe has 7913 votes and Kaumphawi has 7361 votes.
