In Phalombe, police have apprehended a forestry department driver for suspected office abuse.

Marko Mvukuta, the district’s police station officer, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are underway.

Sources revealed that the driver, Mathews Ridi, and two patrol guards (currently on the run) are accused of unauthorized patrols and selling confiscated charcoal.

Concerned citizens and community policing forum members witnessed Ridi and his accomplices loading bags of charcoal into a Toyota Land Cruiser on Sunday evening.

The charcoal was allegedly being offloaded at a specific house, prompting suspicions of illicit activities.

Authorities are intensifying efforts to get to the bottom of the case and address the alleged misconduct.
