A 28-YEAR-OLD woman of John Leing in Lusaka has been arrested for Child desertion after she allegedly sold her child to another woman.

Police have also arrested the suspected buyer identified as Catherine Simuchimba aged 26 of Kaunda Square in Kitwe.

In a statement, police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said investigations revealed that Mary Mweetwa aged 28 gave birth to a baby boy at Chawama Clinic in Lusaka on November 18, 2023 and on November 20, 2023 she is alleged to have sold the baby to Ms. Simuchimba.

Mr Mwale said the said transaction occurred in John Leing compound.

“The baby who is said to be in good health was handed over to the relatives of the mother while the two suspects are detained in Police custody waiting to be formally charged said.
