A joint operation by the Immigration department and the Malawi Police Service resulted in the arrest of 16 Ethiopians for illegal entry into the country in Mzuzu last night.

The northern region immigration department issued a statement, indicating that the collaborative effort led to the discovery of a house where the arrested individuals were staying.

Francis Chitambuli, spokesperson for the immigration department in the north, mentioned that it is believed the immigrants had assistance from some Malawians who were not present during the arrest.

The foreigners, lacking passports and visas, are currently in police custody and will soon face charges of illegal entry, contravening Section 21(1) of the Malawi Immigration Act.
