Police in Lilongwe have arrested two men, impersonating taxi operators for allegedly attacking and robbing unsuspected passengers in Lilongwe.
Spokesperson for Lilongwe Police Station, Hastings Chigalu  has confirmed the development and identified the suspects as Maxwell Manuel and Joseph Matope.
According to Chigalu, the two the suspects were using a Suzuki Swift motor vehicle, registration number NA 313 and were operating along Kaphiri, Six Miles, Bunda and Mitundu roads.
Chigalu further explains the suspects’ arrest follows social media reports that they were attacking unsuspecting passengers using a vehicle registration number NA 313.
“Lilongwe Police detectives spotted the vehicle along Bwaila Street(formerly Devil Street), and made efforts that resulted into the arrest of the first suspect Manuel, who was alone in the vehicle,” says Chigalu.
After being interrogated, the suspect revealed and led police to Chinsapo 2 where his accomplice, Matope, was hiding.
Meanwhile, the two have admitted committing several criminal activities including robbing a LUANAR student of a cellphone valued at K180, 000.
The suspects will soon appear in court  to answer robbery charges.
