The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it is following up on reports that South Africa- based Malawian Pastor Hastings Salanje has been abducted.
When asked if the ministry had received a report of the alleged incident, the ministry’s spokesperson John Kabaghe told the press that: “We are following up the matter.”
Meanwhile the Forum for National Development (FND) has called on the government and the Malawi High Commission in South Africa to intervene.
“Pastor Salanje holds a significant position of influence and prominence in Malawi, therefore, any harm inflicted upon him directly affects the psyche of the entire nation, leading to heightened concern and anxiety,” a statement released by FND reads in part.
Reports indicate that Salanje was taken by unknown gunmen on Sunday after a church service in Randburg.
