The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has said starting from the year 2021 when they implemented the Block Management System (BMS) tax collection plan, they have managed to collect tax worth 40.1 billion Kwacha from people who do business in the country.

The organization also said that during this period, 5,455 new traders have registered to pay tax through the scheme.

However, the director of the program, Hlupekile Msyali has complained that some traders are unwilling to provide important information to the staff of the organization.

The BMS plan started in 2012 based on a survey that showed that there are 1.6 million small business owners in the country but only 27, 722 registered and are paying taxes to the organization.

This was said at a press conference held by MRA in Blantyre today.
