The quasi-religious group Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has told President Lazarus Chakwera that people’s hopes on Malawi’s future are fading due to what they term the President’s inconsistences and delayed actions on matters of public importance.
Such inconsistencies relate to the administration and management of the economy, the public sector, rule of law and governance in general, according to PAC.
On Tuesday afternoon, PAC members held a closed-door meeting with President Chakwera at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, where they presented several issues, including asking the President to trim the size of the Cabinet to 15 members.
In a communique, PAC’s chairperson Monsignor Patrick Thawale, also blamed government on the delay to devalue the kwacha which he said has worsened people’s economic situation, continued corruption but also alleged unprocedural and partisan appointnments into the public service.
It reads in part:”Your Excellency may have been insensitive to the complaints and pieces of advice from stakeholders leading to perception that the Tonse Administration seem to be clueless.
“Your Excellency have no choice but to act decisively on some recommendations made in order to jump start the economy. Malawians are crying out there. The poor are starving.”
