Business activities have come to a standstill in Mangochi as ongoing demonstrations protest the government’s devaluation of the Malawi kwacha to 44 percent.
Closed shops and a significant turnout of protesters, chanting songs demanding President Lazarus Chakwera’s resignation, characterize the scene.
The demonstrators express dissatisfaction with the economic situation, urging Chakwera to step down for what they perceive as a failure to lead them to Canaan.
Police officers are closely monitoring the situation to maintain order during the protests in Mangochi.
