The ministry of agriculture is citing shortage of forex as the main reason behind failure to meet the 40-day ultimatum in the full administration of the Affordable Input Program (AIP) as only less than half of beneficiaries have redeemed the inputs.
The remarks has bee said ahead of the initial deadline that president Lazarus Chakwera gave to the exercise which lies today on 30 November 2023.
Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale has indicated that only 44% of AIP beneficiaries in the country have accessed and bought fertilizer.
According to Kawale, government already completed the process of buying fertilizer but currently there are just waiting for Reserve Bank of Malawi to complete the payment.
