Geoffrey Thupilifana, a grade M accounts assistant at Nsanje district council, has been suspended over suspicions of using forged signatures to withdraw undisclosed cash.

The council’s spokesperson, Robert Nayeja, reported the matter to the police, leading to the recent arrest of the suspect.

According to Nayeja, the officer allegedly attempted to cash a cheque, but the transaction faced obstacles.

The suspension, effective from December 1, 2023, is aimed at facilitating thorough investigations into the alleged fraudulent activities.

Meanwhile, Nsanje deputy police spokesperson Constable Declare Mbukwa has confirmed that the suspect, Thupilifana, has been released on bail.
