One of the natives of this country, Willy Yabwanya Phiri, has established the Malawi Grassroots Soccer Development Foundation which will reach out to grassroots football players in rural areas with the aim of improving their football skills and realizing that the game of football is a tool that can change their culture.

Yabwanya Phiri, who contested for the position of FAM leader in 2015, said that his organization will work with Malawi schools Sports Association (MASSA) so that many children in the age of 11 to 15 will benefit and he hopes that FAM and SULOM will help him so that this country should have more players.

Phiri who is now living in Canada, said that he has established the Malawi Grassroots Soccer Development Foundation to reduce the reduction number of players who can play in the national team.

He said the Malawi Grassroots Soccer Development Foundation has already found friends who have donated used goods such as balls and boots and will organize competitions in schools where the winners will have the opportunity to play in other countries like Canada, Spain, Germany and many others.

Meanwhile, the organization has organized a one-day competition for schools in Lilongwe which will be held at Bingu National Stadium next week.
