Police in Mwanza have arrested a 36 year old man  for allegedly being found in possession of forest produce without permit and for entering a protected Thambani Forest Reserve without documents from relevant authority.

Mwanza Police Station, Spokesperson, Sergeant, Hope Kasakula  has confirmed the arrest and identified the  of the man, Lewis Malunga.

He added that Thambani Forest guards caught Malunga red handed during patrols on Friday, December 8, 2023.

“At the time, Malunga was found with some processed charcoal worth about K 105,000.00,” said Mwanza Police Station Publicist.

He added that forest officials took the suspect to Mwanza Police Station where he was charged with two counts of being found in possession of charcoal and entering a forest reserve without legal documents contrary to Forest Reserve Act.

Malunga is expected to appear in court soon and the charcoal has been kept to be used as exhibit
