A total of 12 districts have been affected by heavy rains from the beginning of this year rainy season up to now.

According to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA), some of the districts are Thyolo, Lilomgwe, Nkhotakota, Mangochi, Balaka and Dowa that have been affected by heavy rains, strong winds and lightning.

Commissioner of the department Charles Kalemba said 961 families were affected following the accident where two people died and five others were injured.

Kalemba said that as of now the department has been able to provide various assistance to 861 affected families with goods such as maize, beans, utensils, blankets and many other things, and it has promised that the department will continues to provide support to these families.
