Police in Chikwawa have arrested three people for allegedly stealing items from the moving motor vehicle in Chikwawa escarpments.
Chikwawa Police Station Public Relations Officer Sergeant Dickson Matemba identified the trio as Benard Isaac, Josephy Richard and Mphatso Samson.
The three were arrested yesterday after police received a complaint from a certain driver who carried construction materials and was descending Chikwawa escapements on the night of December 11, 2023.
According to Matemba upon arrival at Saidi village while descending Chikwawa escapements, unknown criminals started pelting stones on the said moving vehicle while stealing some items and the driver did not stop.
“He reported the matter at Thabwa Roadblock after he discovered that some items were stolen and eventually the officers at the said check point rushed to the scene but the criminals had already fled the place”, added Matemba.
He added that Police instituted investigations which led to the arrest of the trio and also recovered a bag of cement and handbawmark worthy K8.5 Million.
He further says the trio have admitted to have stolen the items from the said motor vehicle and the driver has also positively identified the items.
According to Matemba, all suspects will be taken to court soon to answer charges of theft which contravenes section 278 of the Penal Code.
Benard Isaac is 23 years old, Josephy Richard is 20, both hails from Saidi Village and Mphatso Samson is 24, hails from John Village, Traditional Authority Mulilima in the district.
