The Anglican Diocese of Upper Shire (ADUS) will elect its new Bishop during a conference at St. George Anglican Church in Zomba tomorrow.

Meanwhile, one of the three nominated contestants, Reverend William Mchombo, has withdrawn his nomination. This is according to communication the from Vicar General for the Diocese, Grant Tebulo, addressed to the Church’s faithful on Monday, December 11, 2023.

“I write to inform you that I have received a letter from Reverend William Mchombo declining his nomination as the next Bishop of Upper Shire,” it reads in part.

This means the next Bishop for the Diocese will either be Reverend Dr. Eston Pembamoyo or Reverend Canon John Alexander Mchakama.

The position fell vacant following the excommunication of Bishop Brighton Vita Malasa over allegations of not observing the constitution and canons of the Anglican Church.
