Police in Ntcheu is keeping in custody two men for allegedly suspected for for robbery in the district.
Spokesperson for Ntcheu Police Jacob Khembo has confirmed the arrest and identified the two as Helbert Kathuma and Chikondi Boston.
According to Khembobo, in the wee hours of December 13, 2023, the two in the company of five other colleagues all armed with panga knives invaded the house of a certain well known businessman in the area of Traditional Authority Phambala.
He said while at the house, they assaulted three guards and later entered the house and proceeded to the bedroom where they found the wife to the businessman and also assaulted her while demanding money.
In the process, they stole MK200,000 cash, two cellphones and 500 grams of precious minerals, all valued at MK15,449,000.00 and ran away.
Khembo said when the incident became known in the village, villagers mobilized themselves and started chasing the suspects who dashed in the nearby bush and rode their motorcycle which they hid in the bush.
“The villagers also informed the nearby village who stopped the two on their motorcycle and arrested them,” said Khembo.
The two will be taken before court soon to answer charges of robbery.
