The court in Thyolo has ordered a woman chief Foliji to pay a fine of K150, 000 or spend a year and half in prison after being found guilty of soliciting money from AIP beneficiaries.

According to the deputy police spokesperson of he district, Sergeant Rebecca Kashoti said on 10 December 2023 the chief asked five women in the village to pay at least K10, 000 to K15, 000 on top of the cost of fertilizers.

Kashoti said that after that the women complained to the senior chief Boyidi who informed the police and arrested Foloji.

And when she appeared in court, the public prosecutor Sub Inspector Watson Sikwenga asked the judge, James Balakisi to give a severe punishment to the chief for not showing a good example of a leader.

In complaining, the chief asked for a small punishment among other things, because she pleaded guilty and she will returned the money.
