The newly appointed Secretary General of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Clement Mwale has assured leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa of free and fair elective conference on December 26, 2023.
On Thursday Nankhumwa who is now serving as an Advisor to former President Peter Mutharika asked to allow all candidates vying for Presidency to freely campaign ahead of the elective conference.
“Now that APM has publicly engaged, I hope this marks the beginning of a healing process as we gear up for the 2025 elections.
“My plea is for the party to ensure a level playing field for all presidential candidates and those contesting for other positions at the National Convention. This will firmly entrench intra-party democracy within the DPP,” said Nankhumwa.
Reacting to Nankhumwa’s plea, Mwale said DPP believes in Democracy.
The opposition DPP is scheduled to hold the elective conference next week following a court order in September this year.
