Industrial Relations Court in Blantyre has ordered Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to compensate former Flames coach Meck Mwase with amount close to K450 million after being found guilty of unlawful termination of contract, redeployment and constructive dismissal.
According to Industrial Relations Court Chairperson, Edina Bodole, FAM should pay Mwase the same amount as what was given to Mario Marinica during thetime that Mwase was Flames coach.
Meanwhile Mwase’s Lawyer, David Kanyenda said he was satisfied with how the case is progressing.
“We succeed on equal pay because the Court has found Meck Mwase was discriminated against because he was placed on an inferior wage scale compared to expatriate Coaches,” said Kanyenda.
FAM fired Mwase with a year left on his contract in April last year and appointed the Romanian Coach, Mario Marian as his replacement.
Later, FAM redeployed Mwase as Under-23 national football team coach, but the coach turned down the offer and decided to sue the local football governing body.
Mwase was hired as Flames Coach in 2019 and he guided the Flames to the 2021 African Cup of Nations.
