NIGERIA – A 54-year-old carpenter, Awele Ukpor, has been remanded for allegedly killing a 24-year-old woman, Joy Onyekachi, in Lagos.
Ukpor reportedly struck Onyekachi on the head with an iron basin after an argument over payment.
Subsequently, he sought help from a scrap collector to bury her in a shallow grave behind an abandoned bakery.
The defendant appeared before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder and was remanded in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
The case is adjourned until January 24, 2023.
