Police at Jenda in Mzimba district have arrested a 26- year- old man, Shosani Jere, for allegedly marrying and having s3x with a 16-year-old girl.
Jenda police spokesperson Macfaren Mseteka said that the suspect who works as a forestry assistant at Phembe in the district, has been married to the young girl since October 11 this year.
According to Msekete, the victim was in Primary School grade 8 before married Jere.
The arrest comes after civil society organizations in Mzimba raised concerns that police were delaying to arrest Jere over the offence since he is a son to Inkosi Khonsolo.
The girl has been referred to Mzimba district hospital for full medical examination.
Jere will answer charges of having sexual intercourse with a minor which is against section 138(1) of the penal code.
