The country’s prisons says there are 42 prisoners who are suffering from TB and are also taking drugs while they are there.

According to the spokesperson of the country’s prisons, Chimwemwe Shaba says this is because many prisons are overcrowded which is causing the number of TB patients in prisons to increase.

“Right now there are more than 15, 000 people in prisons in this country and out of that 42 people are the ones who are taking TB drugs, and 18 people are also taking ARVs drugs,” said Shaba.

It is the desire of the National TB and Leprosy Elimination program that by the year 2030 TB disease will be completely eradicated.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease that is caused by bacteria, and it can spread through close contact with people who have TB or people who have symptoms of TB.
