The Ministry of Agriculture has advised farmers not to be afraid of the dry season that some parts of the country are experiencing but they need to follow all the guidelines the ministry will give them.
The secretary of the ministry, Dickxie Kampani through a document released on Thursday this week said that they will implement various policies to help farmers during the drought that is happening dues to EL Nino weather that has affected the rainfall in the southern and central regions of the country.
Some of these strategies include planting when the first rains fall, planting plants that will stay strong to the dry season and planting early maturing crops.
In addition, the ministry has advised farmers to plant seeds in a mixed manner and also be prepared for irrigation farming.
Kampani said that since the drought season brings hunger, it is important for people to be careful with food, especially this Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
