Aspiring Member of Parliament for Blantyre City South Lunzu Constituency Alex Chimwala who is also Malawi Congress Party (MCP) member has urged youths in Machinjiri Township especially footballers to balance between football and education as they grow up.

Chimwala said this at Nkolokoti Ground during finals of the Mk1 million Alex Chimwala Machinjiri under-14 youth Football League which saw Jasper Academy being crowned Champions after amassing 48 points.

In his speech Chimwala said if the youths especially footballers want to excel in life they have to balance between Education and football.

“Football is not a long term career more especially here in Malawi. Once one is above 30 years they say your old but this is not the case with the Ronaldos of today, they are close to 40 years but they are still playing. Now what am saying is there is life after football and for footballer to survive after retiring from football is education,” said Chimwala.

Turning to the youth football league, Chimwala applauded organizers of the League for having a successful competition.

He then promised to continue sponsoring football in Machinjiri Township.

“My main aim of sponsoring football and netball is to see our sporting activities especially Netball is to see the country on world map. Recently I was very sad to hear that our Netball team performing miserably at Fast5 World Series. Netball is the only thing that is putting this country on the map and we have to nature it from the grass root hence pumping more money into it,” he added.

On his part Chairman of the Machinjiri Under-14 youth football Mayamiko Munyonga described the league as a success.
He also hailed Alex Chimwala, the official sponsor of the Machinjiri under-14 youth football league for pumping in huge sums of money.

As Champions Jasper Academy went away with MK250,000 while Sporting FC went away with money amounting to MK180,000.00.
