Aspiring Member of Parliament Alex Chimwala who is also member of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) on December 26, 2023 celebrated his 53rd birthday with the elderly people in Machinjiri Township.
Being his birthday, Chimwala donated assorted items such as Sugar, rice, maize flour and others to over 120 grannies found at Nkolokoti Primary, Area 10 and South Lunzu Primary School.
Speaking after reaching out to over 30 elderly people who gathered at Nkolokoti Primary School, Chimwala said he thought of reaching out to the elderly on his birthday considering many challenges they are going through as a result of the devaluation of the kwacha.
“This is not the first time am doing this, every year on my birthday i make sure i touch a life and this year i thought of reaching out to the elderly people who are finding it hard to feed themselves due to a sharp rise in the prices of goods on the market,” said Chimwala.
He then appealed to other well-wishers who have something to share to remember underprivileged people in the country especially the elderly.
One of the beneficiaries identified as gogo Rose Tembo hailed Chimwala for the kind gesture.
“Am really grateful for this kind gesture from honourable Chimwala. I did not have anything to eat today but now i have something. Zikomo kwambiri achimwala and Mulungu apitilize kuwadalitsa,” said Tembo.
On her part Group Village Headman Mateche said the donation has come at the right time as many people in her area are faced with hunger.
“Am really thankful to Mr. Chimwala and also let me take this opportunity to wish her well on his born-day,” said the chief while urging her subject to rally behind Chimwala.
“Mwana wanzako ndi wako yemwe ukachenjela manja udya naye,” added the chief.
