Police say they registered a total of nine road accidents, a 55% decrease from last year’s 20 road crashes, on New Year holiday.
There were two fatal accidents this year, which represents a 75% decrease from the eight fatal accidents which were recorded last year.
The two fatal accidents were reported in Blantyre and Mzuzu.
National Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Alfred Chimthere, says the decrease in road accidents indicates that initiatives that they have been doing on the ground are bearing good fruits.
He said this year they will double their efforts to completely eliminate road accidents that happen during festive season.
