The Supreme Court of Appeal in Blantyre is at 4pm today expected to give a determination on a matter in which the Democratic Progressive Party’s Kondwani Nankhumwa, Cecilia Chazama and Grezelder Jeffrey are challenging party president Peter Mutharika’s decision to remove them from their positions.
Recently, Mutharika announced that the three had been removed from their positions, among others, appointing Nankhumwa as his advisor and relieving him of his position as vice president for the south.
The three took the matter to the High Court where Judge Howard Pemba dismissed their application that they be retained on the basis that Mutharika has no powers to fire them since they were appointed at an elective convention.
The three, who are being represented by lawyer Cassius Chidothe appealed Pemba’s ruling and Justice Dorothy Kamanga, who is hearing the matter, will give a determination this afternoon.
