The newly appointed advisor to former President Peter Mutharika, Cecilia Chazama has said she set to appear before the disciplinary committee of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) this coming Wednesday.
The party summoned Chazama together with leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa, former Secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey and Zomba Chisi MP Mark Botomani.
The four have been summoned for allegedly attending the National governing Council (NGC) meeting convened by Jeffrey wa Jeffrey in Lilongwe on December 6, 2023.
In the letter sent to the four, the DPP accuses them of undermining authority of party leader Peter Mutharika and disrespecting party leadership contrary to Article 6 (v, vii and ix) of the DPP constitution.
At the moment it is not clear as to whether Nankhumwa, Jeffrey wa Jeffrey and Botomani will attend the hearing or not.
The opposition DPP is currently rocked up in leadership crisis with some top officials led by Nankhumwa pushing for an early convention.
Meanwhile, the party is scheduled to hold the elective conference this coming July ahead of the 2025 polls.
Mutharika has since declared his interest to contest as President.
