Malawi Women’s National Football Team forward Temwa Chawinga has joined American outfit Kansas City on a two-year contract.
The club confirmed the development through their official website saying Chawinga has joined the club on a free transfer after expiry of her contract with Chinese side Wuhan Jiangda at the end of last season.
“I’m excited to join the Kansas City, this team is world-class in every way, from the facilities to the environment at the club. I am excited to get started and hopefully bring home a championship.” reads part of the statement on the club’s website quoting Temwa.
This comes just a day after the Malawian International was named as the women’s world best goal scorer by the International Federation of Football History and Statistic (IFFHS).
Chawinga scored 51 goals for Wuhan Jiangda in all competitions in 2023 season, she won the golden boot award in the Chinese Super League with 30 goals, netted 15 in the Chinese National Cup and scored the six goals in the Chinese FA Cup.
