Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) has said Malawians will experience 9 hours of Loadshedding on Sunday as Tedzani Hydro Power Station will be shut down.

According to a statement released by Escom, there will be power outage for some customers between 5:30am and 8:30am on Sunday due to the inadequate power supply.

“Kindly note that the power system will have capacity shortfall on Sunday 7th January 2024 due to non-availability of Tedzani I, II, II and IV power Stations”, reads part of the statement.

However, Electricity Generation Company (Egenco) has confirmed the development saying the Shutdown is due to the maintenance works that the company will undertake to retrieve trash rake bucket and inspection of intake screens at the Tedzani.

Escom has advised its customers to switch off all electrical appliances during the load-shedding period as the power supply may be restored earlier than the stated time.
