The district police publicist, Gladson M’bumpha, identified the suspect, Dyton Mlongoti, alleged to have committed the offense at Mululu Railway Control Tower on Friday night.
M’bumpha explained that the suspect cut off a cable wire at the tower, crucial for the automatic change of locomotive directions.
Police arrested a 37-year-old man in Balaka for purportedly vandalizing railway property.
Private security officers apprehended the suspect, who was subsequently handled over to the police.
In a related incident, the police captured Falid Mograh outside Cockpit Night Club in the district for allegedly stealing a Toyota Fielder, Registration Number BR 18.
Authorities have recovered the stolen vehicle linked to the alleged car theft incident.
